Purchase Options & Cancellation Policy
Last updated: 20 May 2026
This policy should be read alongside our
Return & Refund Policy and
Pre-Order & Backorder Policy,
which together form the complete set of terms governing purchases at
Hobby Collectors Australia.
1. Purchase Options
Hobby Collectors Australia offers the following purchase types. All product listings clearly indicate the purchase type, availability status, estimated release or dispatch date where applicable, and any specific conditions applicable to that listing.
One-Time Purchases
Standard in-stock items paid in full at checkout. Payment is processed immediately upon order placement.
Pre-Orders
Products secured ahead of their official release date, subject to limited supplier allocations. Full payment is collected at the time of ordering. By placing a pre-order, you acknowledge and accept the specific pre-order terms set out in Section 3 of this policy.
Backorders
Items not currently in stock that are specially ordered from our distributor or supplier on your behalf. By placing a backorder, you acknowledge and accept the specific backorder terms set out in Section 4 of this policy.
Deposit-Based Purchases
Where a deposit is taken to secure a product for in-store collection, specific deposit and collection terms apply as set out in Section 5 of this policy.
Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL)
Instalment payment options are available at checkout via third-party BNPL providers including Afterpay and Zip. As of 10 June 2025, BNPL providers operating in Australia are regulated under the National Consumer Credit Protection Act 2009 (Cth) and are required to hold an Australian Credit Licence. BNPL products are now classified as low-cost credit contracts under Australian law.
Your use of any BNPL service is subject to that provider's own credit contract, terms, and conditions, which you should read carefully before proceeding. Hobby Collectors Australia is a merchant facilitating payment and is not a party to your credit contract with your BNPL provider.
2. Order Confirmation and Contract Formation
Upon placing an order, you will receive an automated order confirmation email. This email acknowledges receipt of your order and payment details but does not, by itself, constitute our acceptance of your order.
A binding contract between you and Hobby Collectors Australia is formed at the point we dispatch your goods and send you a shipping confirmation email. For pre-orders and backorders, the binding contract is formed at the point of dispatch, not at the time of pre-order or backorder placement.
We reserve the right to decline or cancel any order prior to dispatch, including in the circumstances described in Section 7 of this policy. If we decline your order prior to dispatch, you will receive a full refund to your original payment method.
3. Pre-Order Terms and Conditions
Pre-orders allow you to secure an item before its release date, subject to the availability of our supplier allocation. The following terms apply specifically to pre-orders.
Pricing
The price charged at the time of your pre-order is the price you will pay, even if the retail price changes before release. We honour pre-order pricing as confirmed at checkout.
Release Dates
Estimated release dates are provided by manufacturers and distributors and are subject to change without notice. We will communicate any significant changes to release dates via email. Delays in release are beyond our control and do not, by themselves, constitute grounds for a change-of-mind cancellation outside the timeframes set out below.
Allocation Shortfalls
Our pre-orders are subject to supplier allocation. In the event our allocation is reduced or insufficient to fulfil all pre-orders, we will prioritise fulfilment in order of purchase date. If your pre-order cannot be fulfilled due to an allocation shortfall, you will receive a full refund to your original payment method.
Product Cancellation by Manufacturer
If a product is cancelled or discontinued by the manufacturer prior to release, your pre-order will be automatically cancelled and you will receive a full refund to your original payment method. No action is required on your part.
Pre-Order Cancellation by You
These cancellation terms apply to change-of-mind cancellations only and are disclosed at the time of listing. They do not affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
| Timing of Cancellation Request | Outcome |
|---|---|
| More than 3 weeks before estimated release date | Full refund to original payment method (see note on processing fees below) |
| Within 3 weeks of estimated release date | Store credit issued for the full deposit or purchase amount — no expiry date |
| Within 2 weeks of estimated release date, OR once supplier order is confirmed or goods are en route | Cancellation not accepted for change of mind |
Note on Processing Fees
Where a refund is issued to the original payment method, Hobby Collectors Australia will not deduct any internal handling or administration fee. In limited circumstances, non-recoverable third-party payment processing fees may be deducted where applicable. This will always be disclosed in writing before any deduction is made. For orders paid via Buy Now, Pay Later, please refer to the BNPL-specific terms in Section 9 of this policy.
To request a pre-order cancellation, please email info@hobbycollectorsaustralia.com.au with your order number and request in writing. Cancellation requests are not accepted verbally.
4. Backorder Terms and Conditions
Backorders are items not held in our current stock that are ordered specifically from our supplier on your behalf. The following terms apply.
Timeframes
Estimated delivery timeframes for backorder items are provided at the time of listing and are subject to change due to supplier availability, freight conditions, and other factors outside our control. We will notify you by email when your backorder has been placed with the supplier.
Cancellation by You
- Before the supplier order is placed: You are eligible for a full refund to your original payment method. Contact us as soon as possible if you wish to cancel.
- After the supplier order is placed: Because the item has been specifically ordered on your behalf, cancellation may not be possible once the supplier order is confirmed. We will assess requests on a case-by-case basis. If the supplier is able to cancel the order without penalty, a full refund will be issued. If the order cannot be cancelled at the supplier level, your request may be declined.
You will be notified by email when your backorder has been placed with the supplier, so you are aware of when the cancellation restriction applies.
Cancellation by Us
We reserve the right to cancel a backorder if the supplier is unable to fulfil the order within a reasonable timeframe or if the item is discontinued. In this event, you will receive a full refund to your original payment method.
5. Deposit-Based Purchases
Where a customer pays a deposit to secure a product for in-store collection, the following terms apply. These terms are disclosed at the time of purchase and form part of the agreement between the customer and Hobby Collectors Australia.
What a Deposit Secures
A deposit reserves the specific product(s) for the customer and removes the item from general sale. The remaining balance is payable in full at the time of collection.
Collection Window
The customer must collect the goods and pay the remaining balance within 14 days of receiving written notification that their order is ready for collection. Notification will be sent via the email address or phone number provided at the time of purchase.
Extension Requests
If you are unable to collect within the 14-day window, please contact us in writing at info@hobbycollectorsaustralia.com.au before the window expires. Extension requests will be considered at our discretion and are not guaranteed. Any agreed extension will be confirmed in writing and will not exceed a further 14 days.
Non-Collection — Cancellation of Order
If goods are not collected and the balance is not paid within the collection window, and no extension has been agreed in writing, Hobby Collectors Australia reserves the right to treat the order as cancelled.
In this event, the deposit will be converted to store credit equal to the deposit amount, less a cancellation and holding fee reflecting the cost of reserving and holding stock on your behalf. Store credit has no expiry date and can be used on any future in-store or online purchase at Hobby Collectors Australia.
If you would prefer a refund to your original payment method instead of store credit, a cash refund may be issued at our discretion, subject to the same cancellation and holding fee deduction. Cash refund requests must be made in writing to info@hobbycollectorsaustralia.com.au within 7 days of the cancellation notice.
Any cancellation or holding fee deducted represents a genuine pre-estimate of costs incurred by Hobby Collectors Australia in reserving and holding your goods and is not a penalty. The applicable fee will be confirmed in writing before any deduction is made.
Uncollected Goods
Where a deposit-based order remains uncollected and the customer cannot be contacted after reasonable written attempts, we will deal with the goods in accordance with our obligations under the Uncollected Goods Act 1995 (NSW). We will make all reasonable efforts to contact the customer before taking any such action.
ACL Rights
Nothing in these deposit terms excludes or limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. If the goods are faulty or not as described, your ACL remedies apply in full regardless of collection status.
6. Order Cancellations By You — Standard (In-Stock) Orders
To request a cancellation for any order type, please contact us in writing at info@hobbycollectorsaustralia.com.au with your order number and cancellation request as soon as possible.
For standard in-stock orders:
- Cancellations can be accepted at any time prior to dispatch.
- Once an order has been dispatched, cancellation is no longer available as a change-of-mind remedy. Please refer to our Return & Refund Policy for your options after dispatch.
We endeavour to process cancellation requests promptly during business hours. If your order is in an advanced stage of fulfilment, we cannot guarantee that cancellation will be possible even before the dispatch notification is sent.
7. Order Cancellations By Us
We may cancel an order in the following circumstances:
- Product unavailability or supplier inability to fulfil
- Allocation reductions from distributors or manufacturers
- Fraudulent, suspicious, or unauthorised transaction activity
- Payment failure, including failed BNPL instalment payments or payment disputes
- Errors in pricing or product information at the time of listing
- Circumstances beyond our reasonable control (see Section 11)
Where we cancel your order, you will be notified by email and receive a full refund to your original payment method. We will not issue store credit in lieu of a refund for cancellations initiated by us, unless you specifically request store credit.
8. Refunds for Approved Cancellations
Where a cancellation is approved, refunds will be processed as follows.
Method: Refunds are issued to the original payment method used at checkout, unless store credit has been specified (see pre-order and deposit conditions above) or you have specifically requested store credit.
| Payment Method | Estimated Refund Timeframe |
|---|---|
| Credit or debit card | 3–5 business days |
| PayPal or similar | 3–5 business days |
| BNPL (Afterpay, Zip, etc.) | 7–10 business days |
| Store credit | 1–2 business days |
These timeframes are estimates. Actual processing times may vary depending on your financial institution or BNPL provider. Hobby Collectors Australia is not responsible for delays caused by third-party payment processors once a refund has been initiated from our end.
9. Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) — Specific Cancellation Terms
If you paid for your order using a BNPL provider (e.g. Afterpay, Zip), the following applies in addition to the relevant cancellation terms above.
Approved Cancellations
Where a cancellation is approved, Hobby Collectors Australia will initiate a refund through the BNPL platform. The provider will apply the refund to your account and adjust or cancel your remaining instalment schedule accordingly. This typically takes 7–10 business days, subject to the provider's systems.
BNPL Fee Deductions — Change of Mind and RTS Only
For change-of-mind cancellations and Return to Sender (RTS) orders paid via BNPL, a deduction equivalent to the actual merchant fee charged to us by the BNPL provider (typically up to 5% of the order value) may apply. This reflects non-recoverable fees charged to Hobby Collectors Australia by the BNPL provider upon processing a refund.
Important: This BNPL fee deduction does not apply to any refund required under the Australian Consumer Law (including faulty or misdescribed goods), nor to any cancellation initiated by Hobby Collectors Australia. The applicable deduction amount will always be confirmed with you in writing before any refund is processed.
BNPL Disputes
As of 10 June 2025, all BNPL providers operating in Australia are required to be members of the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA). If you have a dispute with your BNPL provider that cannot be resolved directly with them, you may contact AFCA at www.afca.org.au or on 1800 931 678.
BNPL Approval Declined
Hobby Collectors Australia is not responsible if your BNPL application is declined by the provider. Under the regulatory framework applicable from 10 June 2025, BNPL providers are required to conduct affordability and responsible lending assessments. A declined BNPL application does not affect your ability to place an order using an alternative payment method.
10. Partial Orders and Mixed Carts
If your order contains a combination of in-stock, pre-order, backorder, and/or deposit items, the following applies:
- In-stock items may be dispatched separately from pre-order or backorder items.
- You may request cancellation of individual line items within an order, subject to the applicable terms for each purchase type.
- Cancellation of one item in an order does not automatically cancel other items in the same order.
Please clearly specify in your cancellation request which item(s) you are requesting to cancel by including the product name and your order number.
11. Supplier Delays, Allocation Changes, and Force Majeure
Pre-orders, backorders, and deposit-based purchases rely on third-party suppliers and logistics providers. Estimated release and delivery dates are provided in good faith but are not guaranteed. Factors outside our control include but are not limited to:
- Manufacturing delays or production changes
- International freight disruptions or customs delays
- Supplier allocation reductions or cancellations
- Natural disasters, pandemics, acts of government, or other force majeure events
We will communicate significant delays or changes to affected customers by email and provide available options where appropriate, which may include waiting for fulfilment, switching to a comparable product, or receiving a refund.
Where a product cannot be supplied within a reasonable timeframe due to circumstances beyond our control and no suitable alternative is available, you will be entitled to a full refund in accordance with your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
12. Your Rights Under the Australian Consumer Law
Nothing in this policy excludes, restricts, or modifies any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law (Schedule 2, Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth)) or any other applicable Australian legislation.
Under the ACL, regardless of any conditions in this policy, you have the right to:
- A repair, replacement, or refund if goods are faulty, defective, unsafe, or not as described
- Choose your own remedy for a major failure
- Compensation for reasonably foreseeable loss arising from a faulty product
- A full refund if goods cannot be supplied or repaired within a reasonable time
These rights cannot be excluded, restricted, or modified by any store policy, and no fee or deduction of any kind can be applied to an ACL-required refund.
The change-of-mind cancellation terms in Sections 3, 4, 5, and 6 apply only to situations where no consumer guarantee issue exists. They do not limit your ACL rights in any way.
